Just twenty minutes outside the city lies an often overlooked wine route in the Durbanville Hills. This hidden gem is off the beaten path for most visitors but boasts some of the finest crafted wines the Cape has to offer. Notable here is an estate that produces beautiful sparkling sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and shiraz (yes, sparkling shiraz!) Because of the compact size of this small region, we can visit four estates for quiet tastings without the intrusion of many other tour groups. Many of these estates are family owned and operated and it isn’t unusual for the owners to showcase wines themselves or even join you for a tasting!
