Winelands Tour

Welcome to wine country!  This day is all about scenery and flavor as we explore three of the major wine regions in the Cape; Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.  We visit three award winning wineries, one in each region.  This is a great overview to the wide variety of wines produced in these areas.  With a nice balance of reds and whites, there is something for everyone to enjoy.  There is also an opportunity to go behind the scenes into the cellar of an estate and see how the wine is made.  This day ends with a special visit to the Cheetah Outreach Centre where you can interact with the cats and other creatures!

Whales and Wine

Break away from Cape Town and travel 1½ hours to the seaside town of Hermanus.  Known for its beautiful coast and champagne air, it makes sense that this is the favorite place for Southern Right and Humpback Whales to calf.  Along the way we visit the Stoney Point penguin colony and stop for a picture on Sir Lowery’s Pass.  We then enter the town of Hermanus and spot whales from the rocky cliffs, populated with inquisitive rock dassies. This day also offers wine tasting in the Hemel and Aarde valley which is known for producing the best Pinot Noir in the country! (A great addition to this tour is the whale boat cruise, see our add ons page for details).

This day wouldn’t be complete without a traditional Cape Malay food tasting! The Hidden Wine Route

Just twenty minutes outside the city lies an often overlooked wine route in the Durbanville Hills. This hidden gem is off the beaten path for most visitors but boasts some of the finest crafted wines the Cape has to offer.  Notable here is an estate that produces beautiful sparkling sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and shiraz (yes, sparkling shiraz!) Because of the compact size of this small region, we can visit four estates for quiet tastings without the intrusion of many other tour groups. Many of these estates are family owned and operated and it isn’t unusual for the owners to showcase wines themselves or even join you for a tasting!
